DAVID HENRY SMITH. (1947 – 2022) The Final Chapter
The Final Chapter is a posthumous celebration of the work of artist David Smith. Smith was a rising star during his early years, showing and selling work through galleries in London, Vienna, Duisburg and Malmo. After leaving London to return to Lincolnshire in 1972, he became a tutor of Fine Art at Grimsby and Hull Schools of Art and Design.
Smith’s observational work is meticulous and painstaking in its precision. Many of the paintings and drawings featured were completed in the final two years of his life, before his death in 2022. The Final Chapter documents a lifetime’s work - paintings, drawings, etchings and sculpture made by a man who was passionate and obsessive about his work and a transformational source of skills, knowledge and encouragement for the many students he taught.
