Star Lanterns for the festive season
Parents and grandparents who have watched in awe as their young people made Christmas lanterns in readiness for Barton upon Humber’s Christmas Festival now have the opportunity to make their own.
The Ropewalk on Maltkiln Road is running an adult workshop on Saturday (November 20) with artist Kirsty Champ showing how to create star lanterns.
Janine Knight of The Ropewalk said the workshop, which runs from 10.30am until 4.30pm was suitable for all abilities.
“Kirsty will be using natural materials, withy and tissue to create these star lanterns,” she said. “Those taking part will learn the basics of construction and in the day can expect to produce between two and three lanterns of varying sizes and complexity of design,” Janine went on.
Those taking part in the workshop are asked to bring along a pair of secateurs or pliers along with ideas for the lanterns. All materials will be provided free of charge.
“It would be lovely if those taking part in the workshop take part in the Lantern Parade which will leave The Ropewalk at 5pm on Saturday, November 27, to make its way up to the town centre for the switching on of the Christmas tree lights but there is no obligation to do so,” added Janine
The cost of the workshop is £30 or £27 for Ropewalk members.
