Day Workshops

Saturday 30th April Glass Light catchers with Gill Hobson

10.30am – 4.30pm £34/£30*

Using a variety of coloured glasses, wire, solder, beads & other objects you will design & create your own unique glass artwork. Participants will be introduced to the basic techniques needed to achieve a beautiful & original finished piece, including, glass cutting, copper foiling, soldering, patination and finishing. Students will be encouraged to experiment & build confidence to create their own unique work.

On completion of this workshop, participants will have been introduced to a range of techniques & outcomes that should enable them to move onto larger creative projects in glass if desired. £25 is payable for cosumables used during the workshop.

 

Saturday 7th May Explore Devoré Techniques with Dionne Swift

10.30am – 4.30pm £34 / £30*

Create a beautifully textured velvet scarf and discover the elusive secrets of the devoré process. (Devoré: to eat away, to burn) Dionne will help you develop design ideas, then paint, print and dye your scarf.  You’ll have a series of samples too – ideal for card making or further craft projects. There is an additional £12 – 20 [depending on your fabric choice] contribution towards devoré fabric, paste and dyes, payable on the day.

 

Saturday 14th May Coloured Glass Lanterns with Gill Hobson

10.30am – 4.30pm £34/£30*

In this workshop you will be guided to make your own unique 3D glass lantern using constructed glass techniques. A development of Gills’ ever popular ‘Glass Light catchers’ workshops, this is an opportunity to extend your skills and create an original piece that is both useful and beautiful. Suitable for those with previous experience of constructed glass technique it is an excellent way to extend your skills and develop your creative potential in glass. A fee of £25 is payable on the day for materials and consumables in addition to the workshop cost.

 

Saturday 21st May Precious Metal Clay with Alex Hallowes

10.30am – 4.30pm £34 / £30*

Precious metal clay is an amazing material which uses ceramic techniques, and thus no need for metalworking skills, but when it comes out of the kiln, it is pure metal.  Its possibilities for texturing are amazing, and you will have the opportunity to use natural and man-made textures in your piece - which might be earrings, a pendant, or perhaps a couple of beads. 

The cost for materials payable on the day of the workshop will be between £25 and £30.  If you have used precious metal clay before, this workshop is an opportunity to enhance your skills - perhaps by setting a stone or making a ring.

 

Saturday 28th May Embroidered Star Books with Mandy Keating

10.30am – 4.30pm £34 / £30*

Create a beautiful felted and embroidered star book using traditional and modern textile techniques and bookbinding skills. Mandy Keating will demonstrate how to make decorative textile pieces to cover your star book. Using paper engineering skills you will produce an unusual and colourful book, which opens out into a 3D star shape. The cost of materials will be £1.50 per person.
People will need to bring along an apron or old shirt, as some of the session will get a little bit messy.

 

Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th June Large Scale Steel Plate Etching with Christopher Roantree

10.30am – 4.30pm (3.30pm Sunday) £68 / £60*

A two day etching workshop that focuses on two plate registration and colour in one print. This is a structured course for those who know the process of etching and to take their work into the more experimental arena of colour, etching with steel and printing with chine colle on a larger scale. There will be a charge for materials on the day.

 

Saturday 18th June Introduction to Raku with John Wheeldon

10.30am – 4.30pm £34 / £30*

Focusing on the specialized glazing and firing techniques associated with the ancient art of Raku. The workshop will explore classic raku glazes with a particular look at crackle finishes and experimental mixing and application techniques to achieve a range of finished pieces.

 

Saturday 25th June Introduction to Collagraphs with Angela Lindsley

10.30am – 4.30pm £34 / £30*

During this introductory course you will learn the versatile techniques of collagraph printmaking. Printing blocks are produced by cutting, tearing and adding DIY materials to them. This produces both strong and subtle tones. Once you have prepared your plate you will be shown various inking processes to produce rich and vibrant prints.

There will be a small charge for material on the day of £5-£10

Additional Information

Lunch is not included in the cost of our workshops, however our licensed Ropery coffee shop offers a delicious range of daily specials and home made cakes and refreshments. Lunch orders will be taken at the start of the day or alternatively you may bring a packed lunch.

All Classes / workshops must be booked and paid for in full in advance. Payments will not be refunded if a cancellation is received less than 14 days prior to the workshop/class. Cancellations made before this 14-day period will be due a refund less a £5 booking fee.

If you have any special access or equipment needs please let us know so that we can make any necessary arrangements to accommodate this.
