BURA
Awards for Best Practice in Regeneration 2007 - Winners
The
Ropewalk was part winner of the BURA award for Best Practice in
Regeneration 2007 award.
"A redundant
rope works building, (the longest Grade II listed building in
the country) which had laid vacant for 10 years, was converted
to link the Waters’ Edge site with Barton town centre. It
now contains a gallery, studios, workshop and auditorium which
house 26 arts, crafts and media businesses. This project was delivered
through a cooperative established by Proudfoot Supermarket Group
who owned the buildings and the public sector. Demand now outreaches
supply which is being met by another project due to be completed
in 2008."
