Children
in Need
The BBC’s
Children in Need
Appeal is to help youngsters with special educational needs –
thanks to workshops at The Ropewalk in Barton upon Humber.
Thanks to
a grant of nearly £7,000, payable over three years, The
Ropewalk will be able to offer SENsory workshops for children
aged between 4 and 19 attending special schools.
And the Ropewalk
project has been chosen to be closely documented by the areas
BBC Children in Need regional officer Elaine James who will document
its progress in the coming months.
A delighted
education officer, Ellie Collins, explained The Ropewalk had always
provided workshops for children with special needs but the £6,719
grant would enable pupils with learning disabilities fairer and
easier access to work with professional artists.
At the moment
she was writing to the headteachers of special schools throughout
Lincolnshire Hull and the East Riding to find out what they would
like to see offered.
“The
grant will also include training for artists leading these workshops
and enable us to buy specialist equipment and materials,”
she said.
Turning to
the prospect of the workshops being recorded for Children in Need,
Ellie said the charity’s regional co-ordinator had chosen
The Ropewalk and would be following the progress of the workshops
for the duration of the grant.
“The
charity wants regular updates and visits to see what we are doing,”
added Ellie.
And, she added,
that if pupils were unable to come to The Ropewalk, artists would
be able to deliver sessions in schools.
