Workshops at The Ropewalk
A range of
new educational workshops has joined those already on offer at
The Ropewalk in Barton upon Humber.
The Ropewalk’s
education officer, Ellie Collins, has revealed that one of the
highlights of the first three months of 2008 was Living Willow
Art.
Only available
from January to March, Ellie and fellow artist Janine Knight have
already created a number of large scale installations made from
willow in schools throughout the area.
“Pupils
at Caistor Primary School were so pleased with their outdoor classroom
that they couldn’t wait to try it out while we built it
around them,” she said.
And although
the workshops are only available for a relatively short period
of time, Ellie stressed it was not too early to enquire about
willow art for 2009.
“We
will be more than happy to make site visits to schools if they
are keen to budget ahead,” she said.
Workshops
also available for schools include workshops focussing on nature
including Mini-beasts and Giant Bugs and Paper from Old Rope during
which children learn how to create handmade paper from recycled
rope, string and other plant fibres as well as the chance to design
and construct chairs entirely from newespaper using a unique rolling
system in Are You Sitting Comfortably?.
And in acknowlegment
of The Ropewalk’s past, another workshop, Unravelling The
Ropery, highlights the history and process of ropemaking as well
as giving children the chance to design printing blocks and print
on paper and cloth to make either an individual flag or banner.
