On
Safari with ST-ART
The African continent is beckoning for youngsters taking part
in half-term activities organised by the Barton upon Humber based
children’s charity, ST-ART.
Janine
Knight, the charity’s project worker, has organised workshops
with an African theme which will be held throughout North Lincolnshire
and will include a performance of How the Giraffe got its Neck
by theatre company, Tall Stories.
“We
have taken the play as our theme and will be offering a Safari
theme throughout all the workshops that will be taking place during
half term,” she said.
The week of
events gets under way on Tuesday, May 27, at Ropery Hall on Maltkiln
Road when the theatre company will be giving a workshop based
on the theme of the play between 12 noon and 1pm.
The play itself
will be performed at Ropery Hall starting at 2.30pm.
Here children
will be able to join two intrepid explorers on a fantastic adventure
across the open seas and discover how animals such as elephants
and leopards came to be.
“The
play is made up of stories, science and a splash of silliness
which is suitable for everyone aged four years and over,”
said Janine.
Tickets for
the show cost £2 each and are available now from The Ropewalk.
Booking is essential. Other workshops cost £1 per child.
The same afternoon,
between 2pm and 4pm, at Broughton Village Hall, Gill Hobson will
be making masks and Maasai shields while the day afterwards, at
Epworth Leisure Centre, Kirsty Champ will be leading a mask making
workshop between 10am and 4pm and Marc Renshaw will be at The
Ropewalk between 10am and 12noon showing youngsters how to make
elephant foot pencil holders.
On Thursday,
May 29, Broughton Village Hall is again the setting for a workshop,
this time led by Wendy Reeves when a collage of African animals
will be made from 10am and 12 noon while at Barton’s Viking
Resource Centre on Fairfield Drive Wendy Chan will be showing
youngsters how to make a Wild Safari windsock with an animal face.
The final
ST-ART workshop for the half-term holiday will be at Barnetby
Village Hall on Friday, May 30, with Suzanne Dring who will be
making a Safari Watering Hole between 2pm and 4pm.
Apart from
the Tall Stories performance each workshop costs £1 for
each child.
