Festive
Celebrations
The Ropewalk arts centre in Barton on Humber are
to start their festive celebrations on Saturday 24th November
with full programme of attractions on one day. The gallery will
open two new exhibitions, The Studio Art’s Show in the Artspace
and The Year End Show in Galleryone whilst the studios artists
will be open to the public along with an art market featuring
visiting artists from North and North East Lincolnshire, basket
maker Susi Mulligan will be demonstrating how to create willow
pieces, Ropery Hall is hosting two performances of Tutti Frutti’s
production of Silly Billy and finally a lantern Parade will start
from the centre at 5pm.
Richard Hatfield director at The Ropewalk said:
“We are looking forward to welcoming regular customers and
new visitors on the 24th November to enjoy all the different events
we have on offer. The art market is a first for the gallery and
it will feature the work of 25 local artists who will be selling
a range of art and craft, many original pieces that will make
ideal presents and gifts. The open studios event in September
proved so popular with over 2,000 people visiting the centre in
just 4 days that we decided to open the studios again for a pre
Christmas viewing. We are also delighted that Louth based basket
maker Susi Mulligan will be demonstrating the traditional art
of willow weaving to produce wreathes and centrepieces as a preview
for anyone who is interested in coming along to Susi’s course
at The Ropewalk on 15th December.”
Liz Bennet
development officer at The Ropewalk added
“I am particularly looking forward to the performances of
Silly Billy, Tutti Frutti are a very professional children’s
theatre company who give entertaining and imaginative performances.
For just £1 a ticket for children with adults free the two
performances at 11am and 2pm should be well attended. Finally,
another first for The Ropewalk a lantern parade will leave the
building at 5pm walking up Fleetgate and High Street to Junction
Square and adding to the performances of music and jugglers that
will be entertaining local people for the early evening of the
second day of the Barton Christmas Festival. The lanterns have
been created by 30 young people who chose the theme of mythical
creatures and I am sure that onlookers will be impressed with
the results that they have achieved.”
The Ropewalk is open from 10am to 5pm with the Art Market running
from 10am to 4pm. Admission is free, for further details ring
