Welcome to the Ropery Hall Website

Iain Matthews
Sunday September 12 7.30pm £10/£12otd

Forty two years since he last played locally, Iain Matthews, returns to North Lincolnshire to play Ropery Hall on Sunday, September 12.

Iain is doing a short run of UK dates, playing in intimate venues, to support the release of the first Matthews Southern Comfort album in four decades..

Matthews was a founder member of Fairport Convention in the late 1960s before going on to form his own band, Matthews Southern Comfort which had a massive Europe wide hit with Jodie Mitchell’s Woodstock.

Tickets for the show, which starts at 7.30pm are available now from The Ropewalk or online and cost £10 in advance of £12 on the door.

Support comes from acoustic band Circus Envy which were featured in the Symphony for Yorkshire celebrating 25 years of Yorkshire Day.

Welcome to the 4th Autumn season for Ropery Hall. The events team at The Ropewalk is very proud to present artists of such calibre in what essentially is a small community hall. Royal Albert Hall we are not but our aspirations are probably similar: to bring quality professionals to the venue to be enjoyed by as many audience members as we can reach.

This season is particularly full and our regular attenders will need to have plenty of stamina to do it justice! Smooth jazz from Esther Miller is countered with the fiery guitar of Eduardo Niebla. Lively nights courtesy of Angie Palmer, Nick Harper and The Suspicions are guaranteed with a whole host of other music acts from mtm promotions to suit all tastes.

This year we have an emphasis on theatre with a literature bias. The World’s Wife is based on the work of Carol Ann Duffy and Gabriella Drake presents an evening of Mrs Gaskell. On a lighter note North Country Theatre present Blood Wedding and then there is a full night of The Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre Company.

Comedy is well represented and in particular the penultimate weekend in October sees three nights of class acts starting with Robin Ince, Jonathan Miller in the middle and finishing with Milton Jones. Who could ask for more?

Films will be every Thursday at 7.30pm as always but only the first six are contained in this leaflet. Details for the November films will be available on the website nearer the time to ensure we have the most up to date selection available. We start with a showing of the Oscar winning An Education with plenty of other award winners in the rest of the programme.

Finally I would just like to publically thank our partners Mark Keable of mtm promotions, David Porter of J-Nights and our team of highly skilled staff; Janine, Neil, Lee, Richard, Laura, Jane and Cheryl without whom we would not be able to afford to run these evenings.

Patrick Monahan

Never let it be said that Ropery Hall doesn’t bring cultural diversity to Barton. Irish/ Iranian/Geordie comedian Patrick Monahan definitely fills this autumn’s quota! Patrick will be treating a Ropery Hall audience to his chatty & friendly, story telling style on September 25.

An original writer and clever improviser skilled in audience interaction, Patrick's versatility, likeability and engaging stage presence has popular appeal, be it stand-up, comedy character, host or presenter. But don’t take our word for it. Come along and make your own mind up! With tickets at only £8 it’s one not to be missed
