The Ropewalk run a programme of creative workshops throughout the year.
Regular classes include life drawing and patchwork. Our printroom offers a tutored class in printmaking on wednesday afternoon and the facilities are available to hire at other times.
In addition we run day workshops led by visiting tutors in a number of art and craft disciplines.
We have a busy programme of workshops for schools aimed at all ages and abilities and many activities are tailor-made to fit individual school’s schemes of work. And activities for young people during the school holidays can be found by visiting the St-art page.

Six Week Introduction to Silver Jewellery Making
6th Feb, 13th Feb ,20th Feb, 27th Feb , 6th March,13th March
This fun evening course covers the basic techniques of making copper & silver jewellery from traditional methods. Techniques covered in this class include:
- Sawing and piercing – Working with silver
- Soldering - Sanding and polishing
- Annealing - Adding pattern & texture to metal
- Shaping - Using rolling mills
- Tools and resources - Further progression routes.
The class is suitable for complete beginners. Silver and copper is not included in the course fee but you may either bring your own or it may be bought at the class. Students usually make two to three finished pieces of silver jewellery to take away with them. Silver use is optional, and depends on the amount used but will be around £6 to £15
Six Week Intermediate to Silver Jewellery Making

Building on techniques learned in the introductory sessions these six week studio sessions allows you to practice the techniques of making copper & silver jewellery from traditional methods. With time to work on your own project, the tutor will support you with your project.
