The Ropewalk run a programme of creative workshops throughout the year.
Regular classes include life drawing and patchwork. Our printroom offers a tutored class in printmaking on wednesday afternoon and the facilities are available to hire at other times.
In addition we run day workshops led by visiting tutors in a number of art and craft disciplines.
We have a busy programme of workshops for schools aimed at all ages and abilities and many activities are tailor-made to fit individual school’s schemes of work. And activities for young people during the school holidays can be found by visiting the St-art page.
Silver Jewellery Making with Diane Lee

This fun evening course runs over six weeks and covers the basic techniques of making copper and silver jewellery from traditional methods.
Techniques covered in this class include: – Sawing and piercing- Working with silver – Soldering – Sanding and polishing – Adding pattern & texture to metal – Shaping – Using rolling mills – Tools and resources – Further progression routes.
This class is suitable for complete beginners. Students usually make two to three finished pieces of silver jewellery to take away with them.
What you need to bring to this class:
- Glasses or contact lenses (if you need them for close work)
- An apron
- Notepad and pens/pencils
- Sensible footwear ie. no “open toe” sandals
- Hair band (if you have long hair).
There will be an additional charge on the day for the use of silver:
Silver use is optional, and depends on the amount used but will be around £6 to £15.
